Obituary

Marie Elizabeth Grant-Gibson was born on December 31,1939 in Georgetown, South Carolina, of a martial union of Deacon Frank Joseph Grant and Mrs. Rebecca Taylor Grant. She is the seventh daughter. Her parents, six siblings Florence M. Grant, Annie G. Sheffield, Inez F. Grant, Juanita G. Hart, Susan G. Mann, Ruth G. Williams, and second daughter Renee Gibson, all preceded in her death.

 

Marie received her education at the public school in Georgetown where she graduated from Howard High school in 1958. She continued and earned a degree for Elementary Education at Benedict College, Columbia, South Carolina.

 

At an early age, she accepted Jesus as her savior and became a member of Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church.

 

In 1963, Marie relocated to New York City, where she started her family. She married her high school sweetheart Benjamin Gibson and had two wonderful daughters. She worked as an housekeeper, then employed in the research department at Cornell medical center and later became an home attendant. She was a member of Metropolitan Baptist Church.

 

Her love, kindness and all the wonderful things she did for others will never be forgotten. We love you.

 

God’s time on earth for Marie came to a close on Tuesday October 13, 2020. She leaves to cherish her fond memories, her daughter Kurlette Gibson, four grandchildren Tyrone Sweat Jr., Tymaine Gibson, Antonio Ricks Jr., Domonique Gibson, one great grandchild Heaven Ricks and two sisters Frankie G. Archibald, all of New York and Wilhelmena G. Canteen of Georgetown, one brother in law Mr. Hubert Hart of Hampton, VA; a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.
