Flynn Paul Burton was born on September 27, 1957 in Couva, Trinidad. He was the sixth of eleven (11) children to the late Prescott Burton & Ruth Sutton Burton. He was affectionately known as “Paul” to his family & “Trini” to his friends.
Flynn enjoyed working with his hands and upon moving from Trinidad, where he worked with his Father, to New York City decided to further develop his knowledge of welding and carpentry. He attended APEX Technical School in Long Island City, Queens NY. There he took construction, building skills and combination welding technology courses. Upon graduating he worked as a dock builder and welder for 40 plus years. He was a member of the Union Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America in conjunction with Local Union 1456 & 1556. He was hardworking, ambitious and had big dreams for his family. He believed you could accomplish ANYTHING in life if you put in the hard work.
Flynn met Anne Marie Louison on the 3 train on a hot summer afternoon in New York City in 1984. They were inseparable from that day and moved in together shortly after to start a family. They conceived four children throughout their 36-year relationship.
He always spoke about the Lord and believed God had a calling on his life. In his later years he attended the Catholic Church in downtown Brooklyn.
He was charming, humorous, compassionate and generous always looked out for those around him. He would purchase all the candy from his children’s school fundraisers and give them out to the neighborhood kids and their families. When Flynn and his family were in a rough season of life, having to move into a shelter, even in that experience he taught his children how to give. He showed them that there is always someone else who would be grateful to have what you have. During their time spent there he feed other families and even staff because he believed in blessing others no matter what. He truly had a big heart.
He enjoyed playing soccer, loved sports cars and watching action movies. He dreamed of one day returning to Trinidad to build his own house for his family. He taught his children to always be there for each other, care for their Mother and build together. Even if they had 5 cents, he told them to make sure they gave their Mom 1 cent each!
